Hey Amy and Brian,
(I just met you guys at the city council meeting earlier this week, sat next to ya) You guys must have done a lot of work and I appreciate that, but I wish I had actually looked at the resolution earlier.
I have a question about why the 7000 SF lot size is important. If you claim that health isn't an issue, and if the city limits one chicken per 2000 SF (I think your blog says 3000 SF, but I've seen documentation saying 2000 SF) then why can't someone who has 4000 SF (or, even 6000 SF) have two chickens? What was the rationale?
We don't have chickens now, but under the old ordinance, it seems that we could have had tree/free range chickens in our yard, but now, under the new "less restrictive" ordinance, we would be barred. I'm just wondering what the reasoning is.
Feel free to email me: brianheagney AT hotmail DOT com.
Thank you for your work on this ordinance! I just found your blog. We don't yet have chickens but it's a goal for 2012. Thanks!
